Garden Upgraded!
All new gardeners at the Pacific Beach Community Garden are initially given a half-sized plot. As you can see on the right of the picture above, ours is pretty full.
What to do about it? Annex the plot next to us, of course!
The timing was perfect, since the garden just got a load of compost in. We've turned the soil in the new plot, mixed in compost, and now we're ready to get planting.
It will be great to have the extra space as we start ramping up toward summer.
Can't wait to see what other wonderful things you'll be growing this year!
ReplyDeleteHi Carol - we're still somewhat up in the air about what to plant in the new plot. We've got tomato seedling started at home, though, and I'm hoping we get a nice crop.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I'm working on expanding our garden as well. But more importantly I'm trying to figure out how to keep the dogs out of it...
ReplyDeleteHey Miles - I can see how dogs would be a problem...
ReplyDeleteHow does one get put on the list for a plot?
ReplyDeleteA list of all Community Gardens in San Diego can be found on the SD Master Gardeners website, here. Contact information, basic fee information and wait list status (open or closed) will be posted there. If the wait list is closed, keep checking back until it opens, then email the contact person. After getting on the list it can take as long as two years before you make it to the top and get a plot - it all depends on plot turnover. But it's worth the wait!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I have been looking to get a plot for so long but can't even get on the list :( I wish they had more space! Meanwhile, I'm sticking with the container gardening :) Check out my PB 'garden' :) apartmentfarmer.wordpress.com
ReplyDeleteHey Poppy - Yeah, we got lucky getting on the wait-list....
ReplyDeleteNice work at your apartment though. I tried container gardening on my patio over the years, but have only been successful with chiles and herbs. Containers take more work than you'd expect!
